2144.     VANWALL - GREEN FOR GLORY . Ed McDonough  2003.  Highly detailed and profusely illustrated history of Guy Vandervell's cars from the earliest days, through winning the championship and on to appearances at historic race meetings today. 2142.     CROSSLÉ - 30 YEARS OF WINNING.  Rare booklet from 1988 published by Crosslé and the  Ulster Folk and Transport Museum. All the models from the Mk1 of 1956/57 to the 66F Formula Ford 2000 car of  1987. Photographs of each model and a brief history of each. 8in x 6in softcover item in very good condition. pp.31 £18  
2141.     ALBERTO ASCARI. . Karl Ludvigsen. .  Excellent biography of Ferrari's first double world champion. Meticulously researched as ever from Karl Ludvigsen and illustrated throughout with terrific period photographs. All the books in this series are superb and I'm surprised more people don't collect them. If you do, you'll know what to expect. 2140.     WORKS TEAM: THE ROOTES COMPETITION DEPARTMENT .  Michael Frostick 1964. Original first edition (not reprint) of this excellent history and contemporary description of the Rootes Group competition models and activities. Most emphasis on 50s/60s rallying as you'd expect. Cover blurb boasts "works modification schedules for competitions... Advice on food, sleep and car comfort. Team briefing and servicing arrangements..." so it's aimed at the practical reader as well as the armchair enthusiast. Hardback in OK condition (ex-library so some marks and stamps to title page etc.) Dustwrapper is very good. 5.5in x 8.5in. pp.141   £22  
2139.     GURNEY'S EAGLES. The Exciting story of the AAR Racing Cars. .  Karl Ludvigsen. 1992 reprint (with corrections) of the original 1976 edition. Serious study of AAR from its formation by Dan Gurney and Carroll Shelby through the racing successes in Grands Prix and Indy to 1975. Tons of research and specifications, race results and period photos throughout. Foreword by Dan Gurney. Superb. Hardback ('pictorial cover -i.e. not published with dustwrapper) in very good condition. 9.5in 8in. pp.136  £20  
2138.     BENTLEY 4.5 LITRE SUPERCHARGED.  Foulis 'Autofolio' publication on the famous "blower" Bentley. More than a simple picture book, this has period advertisements, technical pictures of the oily bits (it is published by Haynes after all!) and a lot of good information on the known history of each chassis. Hardback in good condition. 8in x 10in. pp. 72.   £10  
2137.     JAGUAR XK BROCHURE 2005  Media/press pack brochure for the launch of the Jaguar XK range. Very luxurious silver-metallic covered hardback book with the usual glossy pictures and information. Original CD-Rom of images and press info is in the pocket at the back. Very good condition. pp.34. 9in x 7in. £15  

ORIGINAL PADDOCK CLOTHING. .  We're pleased to be able to offer this selection of authentic clothing which came from Arthur Burton; the sponsorship director of Hesketh, Arrows and Penthouse / Rizla during the 70s and 80s. The descriptions and size information are as accurate as possible but do email us if you need any more information.

Ideal for retro events like Goodwood or Historic Silverstone, Monaco etc!




2135.     ARROWS FORMULA 1 TEAM JACKET. .  An original padded jacket from the Arrows F1 team. Made by Watkins in the USA it's a fantastic gold colour with matching "Arrows" and "Formula 1" lettering embroidered on the arms. Some of the sew-on patch badges have been removed (see detail photo) but the stitch holes are not obtrusive. - You could add your own patches of course. The Penthouse/Rizla one on the pocket is original. A terrific and very rare piece of F1 memorabilia which would look great at retro events like Goodwood etc. In used but good condition (there are a few small green marks which I'm guessing have come from metal zips etc. but they are hardly noticeable). Zip front fastening with extra neck button, velcro tabs on sleeves and cord fastening at waist.

2134.     AUTOMOBILE CLUB DE MONACO F1 COAT. .  An genuine original padded nylon coat with dark blue faux fur collar, blue sleeve detail and ACM embroidered patch badge. Original and apparently unworn (allegedly supplied for Bernie Ecclestone so he'll have probably worn it once if the race was cold or wet) Very high quality material looks as though it would survive a snowstorm, let alone the occasional Monaco downpour. Zip and press stud front fastening and stand up collar.

2133.     BRABHAM F1 TEAM JACKET. .  An original 1980s padded blouson style paddock jacket from the Brabham team. This is in the team colours of white with dark blue/black collar and cuffs with green sleeve piping but has no logos (though it would be easy to add some sew-on patches) This is a bit grubby on the sleeves but may clean up (no guarantees!) as it is apparently machine washable. Zip front fastening and stand up collar.

2132.     BLACK/GOLD JOHN PLAYER(?) PADDOCK JACKET..  No sponsor's logos on this one but it's in the Black and yellow/'gold' JPS colours. Quite light but fleece lined so it's warm. Press stud front fastening. In excellent clean condition.

2131.     BUSCH RACE JACKET. .  Lightweight race/paddock blouson style jacket in beer sponsors Busch colours. Excellent clean condition. Lightweight nylon washable material.Zip fastening front with button at collar.

2130.     SIMPSON RACE PADDOCK JACKET.  An original 1980s padded jacket made by Simpson, suppliers of  race suits, gloves etc. for decades.  Black with two shades of orange bands and Simpson F1 car logo on the breast. Zip and press stud front fastening In excellent condition.

2129.     PENTHOUSE / RIZLA RACING TIES. .  A couple of original pieces of F1 race-wear Penthouse/Rizla were sponsors of Arrows (see item 2135 above).  Polyester type material with printed logo. Choice of two:

2128.     ORANGE TROUSERS.   I'm not sure which team/sponsor decided these were a good idea but they are 100% authentic paddock apparel and very good quality, being made by Daks, tailored and supplied by John Luckhurst. Very 70s orange (one has pink fly lining detail(!) Supplied with matching tie (made by "Cravats Ltd". of London) at no extra charge. Two pairs: one lightweight material, the other heavier. Waist 34in (approx) inside leg 34in £25 for both.

2121.     ASTON MARTIN DB4 & DB4GT  RECTIFICATION AND RACING.  Guy Loveridge.  New publication based on the diaries and home movies of Des O'Dell , chief rectification and racing engineer for Aston Martin. DVD has some terrific footage mainly from 1961 including testing production Astons on the roads around Newport Pagnell, the Aston single seat Grand Prix car testing at Brands Hatch, racing at Le Mans (including a great sequence of a pre-race practice pitstop on a French rural road), Goodwood Tourist Trophy, Monza, Montlhery and touring Europe with the Zagato bodied DB4 GTs. before returning to the factory rectification workshop where we see Des and the mechanics working on a variety of DB4 and GT cars. The 1962 Le Mans is also filmed with some great pit footage including a DB4GT arriving backwards, having spun on its own oil!  A bonus feature on the DVD is a lovely little film of the 1963 Wiscombe Park hillclimb.  The book itself is full of anecdotes from Des O'Dell (He'd started working on a memoir before he died and Guy Loveridge has had exclusive access to this) and pictures from the O'Dell archives. 2119.     HOW AND WHERE TO TOUR by Motorcycle and Sidecar.  Fascinating and charming book from Temple Press on all aspects of motorcycle touring, both in the UK and Europe. No date that I can find but the illustrations (some beautiful engravings) suggest 1920s or earlier. Maps. ferry times, advice on clothing, photography etc.plus descriptions of routes and recommended sights and stops. Wonderful. Hardcover book (it never had a dustwrapper, being designed to be carried in the pocket) In good clean condition. (a bit of wear to the spine) Its original owner ,Mr. A. J. Paul has written his name in fountain pen on the flyleaf.    5in x 7in approx. pp.204  £25  
2118.     JAGUAR GUIDE - John Bentley.   Rare 1957 American volume on the history and development of Jaguar cars to date. Fully illustrated and with lots of information (SU needle charts and advice on brake pad changing in the maintenance chapter)  Softcover item in very good condition (minor edge rubbing, clean and tight binding) 5.5in x 8.5in pp.124   £22  
2117.     THE AUSTIN HEALEY. Donald Healey and Tommy Wisdom.  Classic 1960 book on Austin Healeys with heavy emphasis on competition and record breaking. Great photographs of all models from A-H 300s at Goodwood and a Healey 100 on a test track (see opposite) to Sprites on Alpine passes, plus the amazing fin-backed Bonneville car. Lots of cutaway drawings of engines, wiring diagrams etc.  Hardback without dustwrapper in excellent condition (slight fading to spine). 5.5in x 8.5in pp.128   £24  
2116.     W.D. & H.O. WILLS RALLYCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP 1970/1971. LYDDEN Programme.  Original programme for this event giving entrant details (driver and vehicle). Some crease/ edge rubbing but intact and clean. Some pen note on the back cover but otherwise unwritten. 5.5in x 8.5in  8 pages including covers. £8

2114.     HIGH PERFORMANCE DRIVING For You. - Tom Wisdom.1967 BSM book on advanced road driving techniques by well known race and rally driver Tommy Wisdom. "Heel and Toe', skid control, over-steer and under-steer and a host of other details are explained" Illustrated with diagrams and photographs, many of the BSM High Performance Course Fleet cars: Aston Martin DB5, Austin Healey 3000, Mini Cooper S, Fiat 2300S, Ford Cortina GT, Jaguar E Type, Jensen CV8, Lotus Elan, MGB, Porsche 911, Renault Gordini R8, Sunbeam 260 Tiger, Triumph TR4A. 2111.  GRAN PREMIO DE MEXICO. -Photographer's pass badge from the1968 race, which was won by Graham Hill. A little worn now but intact. 3in wide. £20  
2108.  MERCEDES BENZ. A Collection of odd and intriguing facts about Mercedes-Benz Automobiles. - Produced by Mercedes-Benz Sales in South Bend, Indiana, this was showroom literature in 1961. Lots of little snippets of information, but more of a collectors item than a work of reference. Softcover item in good condition bar a couple of notes in pen inside and what look like dollar calculations on the back cover. - working out finance on a new Merc perhaps? 5.5 in x 8in pp.8 £5  
2106.  NIKI LAUDA. SECOND TIME AROUND. The New Formula 1. The Turbo Era. -Following his 1977 book 'Formula One' Lauda returned to the subject in 1984 with this astonishingly technically detailed book, written with Herbert Vole. All aspects of the cars, the circuits and the driver are discussed by the people who really know. - The section on driver fitness is written by Willi Dungl, Lauda's personal trainer for example. Great photographs and drawings throughout. Hardback with dustwrapper in excellent condition. pp.208 7in x 9.5in. £22  
2105.  EMERSON FITTIPALDI. Heart of a Racer. - Karl Ludvigsen. 2002 biography with a wealth of great photographs accompanying detailed text. Large format 10"x10" hardback with dustwrapper in excellent condition. pp.252 £25  
2103.  KARL KLING. Glossy 6"x4" photographic print with a portrait of Karl Kling in race overalls. Printed on the back it says " 63 533 Mercedes-Benz Rennfahrer Karl Kling"Original item in excellent clean condition with no creases etc. £18  
2102.  BARRY SHEENE. - The Biography. Stuart Barker 2003. Written by 'Motor Cycle News' journalist Barker- the only journalist to have ridden on the road with Sheene, this is a very full biography of the hugely popular world champion right up to his untimely death in 2003. Full of anecdotes, as you'd imagine, An appendix of major career results and colour photos. Hardback with dustwrapper in excellent condition. 6in x 9.5in. pp.336 £20  

2101.  THE EARLY HISTORY OF MOTORING - Claude Johnson 1927. Claude Johnson was first secretary of the Royal Automobile Club and one of the pioneers of motoring. He was pivotal in the early days of Rolls-Royce for example. This is a very luxurious book, with wonderful full-page advertisements (many in full colour) not just for automotive items but things like Pianos, shotguns and Chinese jade carvings. - definitely aimed at the country house set! The text is authoritative, and illustrated throughout with photographs and engravings. Tipped-in photograph of Claude Johnson and a wonderful heraldic-style bookmark, bound to the spine with blue cord and advertising Rolls-Royce. Hardback without dustwrapper in very good condition (a few marks and rubbing to the cover boards but nothing serious and remarkable for a nearly 90 year old book!) Very clean and still tightly bound inside. This copy was the property of the author Roland King-Farlow and bears his bookplate. 7.5in x 10in. pp. 144. £75  
2100.  LUTON HOO SPEED TRIAL. Sept. 15th 1923. A fine winner's medal issued by the ACU South Midland Centre and awarded to "C PAUL ... 1000cc Car Expt. 1st" . Cyril Paul went on to drive Rileys, MGs and for E.R.A. competing at all levels, including at Le Mans and Brooklands, co-driving with John Cobb. The medal is 1.25 in (32mm) diameter. enamelled and engraved. £100
