1669. RAYMOND MAYS. A fine, bold autograph on white paper suitable for framing. This has a couple of spots of white retoucher's paint tidying it up. This and some faint pencil notes below suggest it was used for reproduction, and looking at the byline signature which accompanied his pieces in 'Motor Sport' it looks identical. This offered together with a 10in x 8in photo of Mays in his ERA in the pits at Shelsley Walsh in 1936. As a set. £75 |
| 1668. SEARS/AMON COBRA CLASH. A 7.5in x 6in B&W photograph of Jack Sears in the Willment Cobra leading Chris Amon in the Tommy Atkins Cobra at Brands Hatch in 1965. Sears won by just 1.4sec. 'Motor Racing': "A wonderful dice with the masively built cars drifting very smoothly on their fat Goodyears, Sears seeming to have the edge on steam out of the corners, and Amon closing up on braking,. A great dice, from which a dead heat would have been a fitting verdict." Amon had bloodied palms after the race having blistered them in the Nurburgring 1000km race earlier in the weekend. signed by Jack Sears and Chris Amon. £50 |

| 1545. THE
KINGS OF THE ROAD. K.W. Purdy. 1952. "This
is not only a book for the lover of the antique or eccentric, the
unashamedly big and fast car: it is a tribute to the European tradition
of engineering and styling from an author disgruntled with the "mouth
organ" and "flaccid beetle" style that has spread
over the world from his native America." Covers the Grandes
Marques such as Bugatti, Mercer, Duesenberg, Mercedes, Hispano-Suiza,
Rolls-Royce etc. but also MG, Morgan, Jaguar and others. Chapters

| 1542. THE
RACING COOPERS. /
FANGIO. Arthur Owen 1959 1st edition. Highly detailed early
book on Coopers which is particularly strong on 500s and record
breakers but the sports cars etc. are also well covered. Excellent
illustrations. Preface by Charles and John Cooper, Foreword by
Stirling Moss. A rare book made unique by having been signed
in pencil on the flyleaf by Juan Manuel Fangio. The dedication
reads "Salute BRM!, Fangio '54" The date anomaly being
(presumably) explained by this photo from page 85 showing him alongside
Eric Brandon and Alan Brown at Goodwood. Fangio was waiting
for his new BRM and John Cooper actually offered him a drive should
it fail to appear. Most taken with the car, he drove it in the
Chichester Cup race but it suffered a misfire. The date though
was 1952 so it looks as if his memory was a couple of years out.
Hardback in OK condition (no D/W, pages slightly foxed, cover boards
rubbed) 5.5in x 8.75in pp.243 £155 |

and contains lap charts for the owner to complete. It says "A

cover and some small black marks on the edges of a couple of pages.
