1938.    ROLLS-ROYCE: Hives, The Quiet Tiger.   Alec Harvey-Bailey.  Henry Royce Memorial Foundation publication on the life and work of  Lord hives, who drove in the 1907-08 Scottish Trials and worked for R-R from 1908, becoming head of the experimental department, having a great deal of influence on the marine and aero engines.  Softback in very good condition (small mark on back cover) 6in x 8in approx. pp. 101  £20
1937.    DAN GURNEY - THE ULTIMATE RACER.    Karl Ludvigsen 2000. Haynes published biography of Dan Gurney by respected author Ludvigsen who first met Gurney in 1958. Lavishly illustrated in both B&W and colour.  Hardback with dustwrapper in excellent condition.10in x 10in. pp.208
1936.    BONNEVILLE SPEED WEEK 2001.    A fabulous poster for the annual week of record breaking on the salt flats in August.  Also includes the dates for the 'World Finals' in October.  A wonderful piece of Americana and very redolent of the atmosphere of the event. 18in x 23.5in. poster in superb unused condition.  £100
1935.    ROLLS-ROYCE ENTHUSIASTS' CLUB YEARBOOK 2010.    A lavish, hefty tome produced for the RREC.  Lots of the sort of 'lifestyle articles you'd expect in expensive magazines but there's some great historic R-R and Bentley content too, drawing on the club's own archives.  Not normally sold outside the club.  Hardback in good condition (one corner bumped) with very good dustwrapper. 10in x10in. pp.429  £14
  

1934.    AMATEUR RACING DRIVER  T.P Cholmondeley Tapper.    The splendidly named Thomas Pitt Cholmondeley-Tapper was New Zealand's first motor racing hero, bought Earl Howe's Maserati grand prix car and raced successfully in the 'thirties, being offered a Mercedes test drive and participating in the 1936 German Grand Prix.  This book is a detailed account of his exploits and a great record of pre-war British and continental motor sport.  I can offer two editions, both from the collection of Pauline Mayman and signed by her on the flyleaf in each case:

1933.    TYRRELL F1 MODELS.    Two diecast models by Minichamps in 1:43 scale. Both in immaculate condition in the original display box/cases. Cars are approx 4 inches long and complete with all sponsor decals, driver with correct helmet colours etc.

1932.    PARNELL BRM V8.  Press photo with attached caption of "A new £12,000 British Sports Racing car, planned for international events...."  The story goes that after Reg Parnell's death, the Climax engined RP64 F1 car project was halted, and the designer, Les Redmond charged with turning the car into a sports racer. -sounds difficult! 9.5in x 6in original press print from Raymonds of Derby in good condition with typed caption sheets stuck to the back. £23

1931.    AUDI / AUTO UNION.    Promotional poster for the Audi Quattro from 1983showing it side by side with the C-Type Auto Union of 1936. Originally presented with 'Classic & Sportscar magazine' and quarter folded for original insertion. Very good clean condition. £8

 

1930.    BENTLEY /LE MANS Photographs.    The no. 3 car in action and the team cars in an improvised preparation area in a local hotel courtyard. Two sepia-brown tone prints on photographic paper (from copy negs but good quality) some creases from being rolled but should mount well. Images are 9.5in x 14 in not including borders. As a pair: £18
1929.    COLIN McRAE- THE REAL MCRAE.    Colin McRae's Autobiography from 2002. Covers his career up to and including the first part of the 2002 WRC championship. Illustrated. Hardback with dustwrapper in excellent condition 6in x9.5in. pp.261.  £20
1927.    RACING STEWART  The Birth of a Grand Prix Team.    1997 book by Maurice Hamilton and John Nicholson on the short-lived Stewart Grand Prix venture. Beautiful photography throughout and detailed expertly researched text. Foreword by Jackie Stewart. Hardback with dustwrapper in good condition (slight curling to top and bottom edges of d/w) 9.5in x11in. pp.216.  £18
1922.    PORSCHE 911 GT1 LE MANS(1998).    Maisto Diecast model in 1/18 scale of the car driven by Alzen, Muller and Wollek in the 1998 24 Hours.  A beautiful heavy thing with opening doors, removable engine cover, detailed interior, working steering etc. In excellent clean condition (one mirror missing). £20
1921.    BUGATTI : International Magazine of Automobiles and other objets d'art. . English Edition March 1992. The majority of this volume covers the EB110 supercar, with coverage of the launch, technical and design articles etc. There is also material on the 'other Bugattis: Carlo and Jean , and articles on wheels, Nuvolari, a Dutch vintage rally, the Bologna motor show etc. etc. Hardback in excellent condition (originally distributed with no dustwrapper) 13in x 9in. pp.80 £25
1920.    NINE LIVES PLUS. The Hon. Mrs. Victor Bruce 1977.  Autobiographical account of "Record Breaking on Land, Sea and In The Air"  Mrs Bruce raced at Brooklands, won a Coupe de Dames in the Monte Carlo Rally, flew single handed to Japan, set powerboat records etc. etc. Exhausting to read!  Illustrated hardback in excellent condition 5.5in x 8.5in. pp. 192  £20
1919.    THE DEATH OF AYRTON SENNA  Richard Williams 1996. A serious analysis of Senna's career and of course the events of Imola in '94. Essential reading for the Senna fan. Softback Penguin books volume in excellent condition. 5in x 8in pp. 186. £9
1918.    AYRTON SENNA -A Tribute. Ivan Rendall. A nice volume on Senna's career with great photographs from the earliest days through to 1994.. Particularly good 'career record' section which summarises his performance in every race contested from his pre-F1 days in 1981 onwards.  Hardback with dustwrapper in good condition (one slight corner bump) 10in x 9.5in. pp. 174  £19
1778.    AYRTON SENNA: THE HARD EDGE OF GENIUS. Christopher Hilton 1994.  Updated edition covering the final race at Imola in 1994. Illustrated.  Paperback in good condition. 5in x 8in. pp.306. £8
1917.    ALAIN PROST. Life In The Fast Lane. 1990.  If you've seen the recent "Senna' film you'll know why this is an excellent companion (though that's possibly not the best word!) volume to the Senna titles here.  Autobiographical account of "the Professor's' career translated from the French. Excellent insider insight into 1980s F1.  Softcover book in very good condition. 6in x 9in pp.189 £20
1916.    MEN AT THE WHEEL Peter Miller 1963.  A series of profiles and biographies of  twenty five drivers of the early 1960s , complete with contemporary photographs by the cream of the photographers of the period: Michael Cooper, Bernard Cahier, Edward Eves, Geoff Goddard etc. etc. Hardback with dustwrapper in excellent condition. 7.5 in x 10in. pp. 128  £20
1915.    JIM CLARK PRINT..  A beautiful limited edition (no. 069 of 500) Craig Warwick print on heavy art paper produced in 1993 to mark the 25th anniversary of Jimmy's death. Signed by the artist. Excellent condition ready for framing (supplied rolled in a tube)  27.5in x37.5in  £85

1914.    GRAND PRIX DE MONACO. Rainer Schlegelmilch and Harmut Lehbrink.  A huge tome from legendary photographer Schlegelmilch. Covers the complete history of the race from 1929 to 1998. A beautiful evocation of the races with erudite text to match. See the sample spreads opposite.  English /German /French triple text. Hardback with dustwrapper in excellent condition. 11in x 12.5in. pp. 460  £25
1913.   E-TYPE JAGUAR by Lesney  'Matchbox' diecast model car (no. 32) made in the early 1960s and finished in metallic red. Pretty good condition: The paint has a few chips but it's otherwise clean and intact. about 2.5in long. £20
1911.    THE SCHLUMPF OBSESSION. Denis Jenkinson and Peter Verstappen. Don't be put off  by the rather cheap BCA design: This is a serious history of one of the most extraordinary car collections ever assembled, shrouded in almost complete secrecy until 1977 when in a dramatic series of events its unbelievable treasures were revealed. The full history of the reclusive Schlumpf brothers and their private museum is told by expert authors, including the discovery, the setting up of the museum and the infamous occasion when the disgruntled workers torched a car in the courtyard among many others. Hardback with dustwrapper in excellent condition. 8.5in x 12in pp. 189  £30
1909.    ALFA ROMEO HUB CAP  An amazing flying saucer-like thing which has been decorating the wall here for ages. I'm not sure which model Alfa it came from. Stainless steel (I think) with plastic Alfa logo ring. One smallish scratch to the centre may well polish out. 10" in diameter. £25.
1908.    1927 STUTZ BLACK HAWK  1/24 scale diecast model by Danbury Mint.  Superbly detailed with opening, double hinged bonnet covers, opening doors, working steering etc. In excellent condition (missing the bonnet mascot and one door step but otherwise as new) Supplied in the original box. 8" long. £45
1907    PORSCHE GUIDE by SLONIGER.  1958 US publication by noted Porsche expert and aimed at the serious Porsche owner rather than just the armchair enthusiast. History of the company, Tuning and extras (including supercharging), strengths and weaknesses, plus track use (including diagrams on cornering technique) Fascinating.  Softback in good condition (a little very light water staining to the edge of some pages) 5in x 8in pp.128  £22
1906.    ROLLS-ROYCE  1925 -39 MANUAL.  c1950.  John Haynes.  This may be the first-ever technical tome produced by the now-famous Haynes publishing group.  Basic printing and reproduction of photographs and drawings but remember this is a first! Acknowledgements include the Science Museum and Rolls-Royce themselves. Slightly grubby cover but very good inside  8x5in.  Softback.  Pp.101  £40
1905.    SUNBEAM CENTENARY 1899-1999. A programme for the Sunbeam-Talbot-Darracq register rally at Weston Park & Wolverhampton. Good history of Sunbeam company and timeline of significant dates. Detailed list of cars entered on the rally, itinerary etc.  mint condition softcover book. pp.16  A4 size.   £12
