The following items have come from the personal collection of Shekhar Mehta ( 1945-2006 ), the 5 time winner of the Safari Rally and many other events. He was an ambassador for Datsun for many years, rallying their cars with great success. I am very pleased to be able to offer them here.

SM 4. SAFARI RALLY 1972 FINISHER CAR BADGE. Shekhar finished 10th this year, in a Datsun. The badge has a year bar added for 1972 and his name and the year are engraved on the reverse. The chrome and enamel badge measures 3 1/8 x 3 7/8 inches. Price £175SOLD SM 5. SAFARI RALLY 1973 FINISHER CAR BADGE. He won this time, driving a Datsun Fairlady ( 240 Z ). The badge has a blank year bar fitted and his name and year are engraved on the reverse. It measures 3 1/8 x 3 7/8 inches. Price £250 SOLD SM 6. SAFARI RALLY 1974 FINISHER CAR BADGE. This was in a Lancia Fulvia and he finished 11th.The badge has his name and year engraved on the reverse and it measures 3 1/8 x 3 7/8 inches. Price £175 SOLD SM 7. SAFARI RALLY 1979 FINISHER CAR BADGE. He came 1st again in a Datsun Violet 160J.This was the last of the car badge style awards. It does not have a name or year on it. SM 8. SAFARI RALLY 1980 FINISHER BADGE. Another win, in the Violet. This time the award is just a circular painted enamel badge, measuring 3 inches in diameter. Price £250 SM 9. SAFARI RALLY 1981 FINISHER BADGE. He was starting to make a habit of winning, again in the Datsun Violet 160J.The badge measures 3 inches in diameter. Price £250 SM 10. SAFARI RALLY 1982 FINISHER BADGE. This was the 5th win for him with Datsun. The badge measures 3 inches in diameter. Price £250 SM11. SAFARI RALLY 1984 FINISHER BADGE. SM 14. ACROPOLIS RALLY 1973 FINISHER AWARD. This is the first of the Acropolis awards. It is the finisher’s plaque for1973. It is made of chrome plated brass and enamel. There is no inscription on the back, so I assume this is a Datsun 240Z drive. It measures 2 x 4 inches and is complete with the display stand and box, Price £160 |

SM83. SAFARI RALLY 1979 WINNERS RALLY PLATE DECAL. This is from the car, a Datsun Violet 160J, no. 9 , that finished 1st. overall on that years Safari Rally. It was the second time he had won the rally. The decal has been removed from the car and then stuck to a piece of newspaper to preserve it. Although it is only a decal, it is the winning one.
